Why ridge movement needs dealing with promptly
Top line checked properly
We inspect the ridge and the coverings beside it before repairing it.
Local or longer-run fix
A single loose ridge is treated differently from a failed ridge line.
Built for exposed weather
Stable fixing and good joints matter most at the roof's highest point.
Securing the most exposed line on the roof
Ridge tiles protect the meeting point at the top of a pitched roof, so when they move, the whole roof becomes more vulnerable to wind-driven rain. We carry out ridge tile repair work in Deeside where cracked bedding mortar, displaced ridge pieces, gaps along the line or fragments on the ground show that the top of the roof has started to fail. That movement can be gradual, or it can show up all at once after bad weather. Either way, it is not something to leave. Once the ridge starts loosening, water and wind can begin working into the coverings beneath and the problem rarely improves on its own.

Knowing if the problem is local or along the run
Before repairing the ridge, we check each affected tile, the bedding or fixing method and the nearby roof coverings. Some jobs involve securing an isolated loose section. Others reveal a longer stretch where the line has failed and needs wider attention. The aim is to restore alignment, weatherproof joints and stable fixing at a part of the roof that takes a lot of weather. A ridge repair should leave the top course secure and consistent, not uneven and waiting for the next gust to test it again. We keep the advice plain so you know whether the issue is short-run or more developed.
Frequently asked questions
Is a loose ridge tile an urgent repair?
It can be. Ridge tiles sit at a very exposed part of the roof, so once one starts moving, wind and rain can make the problem worse quickly. A loose ridge can also shed fragments to the ground, which is another reason to get it checked rather than waiting.
Do cracked ridge joints always mean the tile is loose?
Not always, but cracked bedding or visible gaps are common warning signs that movement has started. We inspect the tile itself as well as the joint, because some ridges look untidy but remain stable, while others have already lost the support that was holding them in place.
Can ridge problems cause leaks lower down?
Yes. If water gets in at the ridge, it can work into the roof covering beneath and travel before it appears indoors. That is why a damp patch does not always sit directly below the failed ridge section and why the surrounding roof area needs checking too.
